Givi Trekker Monokey 46 Liter Aluminium Topbox

I have owned a Givi Trekker Monokey 46 Liter Aluminium Topbox for over 3 years now.

I own and operate a motorcycle courier business, and when I’m not creating articles and reviews, I’m out on my motorcycle with this top box always attached.

I can open and close this top box 20 or 30 times a day and carry all different parcel types in it, from the odd letter to fairly heavy bulky items, and can honestly say I give it some heavy use!

If you are considering purchasing a large top box for your motorcycle, in my opinion, you have to consider purchasing the Givi Trekker Monokey 46 litre Top Box!

I find this top box very easy to keep clean. I wash it with soapy water or use antibacterial wipes.

Sometimes the items are too large for me to close the lid and lock it, so I put a couple of buggies around the box to keep it closed and the items inside secure.

I suppose what I’m trying to say is that I’m not your regular user, and over the three or so years I have owned the Givi Trekker 46 Liter box, I have definitely used and abused it far more than the average motorcycle rider would.

This is why I am writing this review to let other fellow motorcycle riders know just how good this top box is!

Is The locking System Secure On The Large Givi Trekker Monokey 46 Liter Top Box?

Here’s my answer:

The locking system on the Givi Trekker Top Box is excellent, both locking the box itself to the monkey motorcycle mount, which attaches the box to the motorcycle, and the locking system that locks the box shut is also excellent.

I have been taking my Givi Trekker Monokey 46 Liter Topbox on and off my motorcycle at least two times a day every day, seven days a week, for over three years now. Sometimes it may be more.

The quality of the keys I received with this top box is excellent, and again I have used the same key for over 3 years.

Over the three or so years I have had this top box, the locking system which attaches this top box to the motorcycle still works perfectly, and the lock which locks secures the lid of the box also still works like the day I purchased it.

I do, however, give the lock a spray with WD40 every two months or so through the winter months and once a month throughout the spring – autumn periods as I ride my motorcycle throughout the whole year.

Over the three years or so I have owned this top box, I have never had any locking mechanism issues. Removing and attaching the box from my motorcycle is also just as easy as the day I purchased it.

Is The Givi Trekker Monokey 46 Liter Top Box Waterproof?

Here is the answer:

This top box is waterproof. However, Givi would probably more likely say it is water-resistant.

I have been out on my motorcycle with the box attached when it has been pouring down with rain, and this top box stays perfectly dry inside.

I can pick up essential documents from lawyers, courthouses, and other law firms. Although I seal them in a waterproof bag as these are essential documents, the bag inside has never been wet or damp on the outside when I remove them from this top box to deliver the items. Even in the heaviest rain, they remain bone dry.

So, don’t worry about using this top box in heavy rain. this is a waterproof top box.

Is The Givi Trekker Monokey 46 Liter Top Box Well Made?

Here’s my answer:

The Givi Trekker Monokey 46 Liter Top Box is extremely well made. It is attached to my motorcycle constantly, day in and day out.

The shell of the box is nice and thick and feels excellent quality. As soon as you pick it up, you can feel that this box’s quality is excellent, and I would have thought a lot of time and effort has gone into designing this top box.

However, this brings me to something which may be negative for some people but not for me.

When it is empty, the box weighs 18.8 pounds, which is 8.5 KG, so it’s not the lightest of boxes on the market, but in my opinion, for the excellent construction and secure locking system, I feel this is not a negative point.

Can the Large Givi Trekker Monokey 46 Liter Top Box Hold A Full Face Helmet?

Here’s my answer:

The large Givi Trekker 46 Liter top box can hold two full-face motorcycle helmets. This box is the ideal size if, like me, riding on your own, you want to be able to put your helmet, gloves, and other items in a safe, secure place when you arrive at your destination. This top box is an excellent choice.

Can The Givi Monokey 46 Liter Top Box Be Used As A Pannier?

Here’s my answer:

This top box can also be used as a side pannier, which can be very convenient for some people. Although I do not use mine as a side pannier, if you have Givi Monolock pannier fittings mounted to your motorcycle, this top box would easily fit them. You would be able to slot this box on and off your pannier fitting.

Are There Any Negative Points About The Givi Monokey 46 Liter Top Box?

Here’s my answer:

Personally, I don’t think there are any negative points, but there are a few things that may put someone off purchasing the top box.

1. The size of the box
2. The weight of the box

The size of the box

The box’s size is quite large, which can be positive or negative depending on how you look at it. I have measured the box on the outside, and here are the dimensions:

• Width approximately 52cm
• Height Approximately 30cm
• Depth Approximately 38cm

If you are riding your motorcycle with this top box attached, you will definitely notice that it is attached to your motorcycle until you get used to it.

However, after you have been out riding your motorcycle with it attached a few times, you will not even notice that it’s attached to your bike.

I had to check in my mirror the other day to make sure I had attached it to my motorcycle before I got too far from home!

What Is The Weight Of The Givi Trekker Monokey 46 Liter Top Box?

The Givi Trekker 46 Liter Top Box weighs 18.8 pounds, which is 8.5 KG. It’s not the lightest box on the market. However, this is due to how this excellent top box is made. This top box is a solid build made to last a long time.

If you want to buy a top box once, then, in my opinion, this is the top box to purchase. You can buy lighter top boxes for motorcycles, and I have had them myself before, but they are flimsy and not made to the same quality as this top box.

Conclusion

The Large Givi Trekker Monokey 46 Liter Top Box is an excellent, well-made motorcycle top box of the highest quality. This box is a good size at 46 Liters but may be too big for some.

Weighing in at 18.8 pounds or 8.5 KG, it isn’t light but not overly heavy either. The weight is one thing any motorcyclist will have to put up with if they want a long-lasting quality, secure top box for their motorcycle. However, once you get used to it, you won’t even notice it’s there!
